Porth is a picturesque, family-friendly area located just east of Newquay on Cornwall’s north coast. The beach is sheltered by low headlands and flanked by dramatic cliffs, it offers a wide expanse of golden sand that’s ideal for sunbathing, sandcastle-building, or simply unwinding by the sea.
The beach is known for its calm, shallow waters, making it a popular choice for paddling and safe swimming- particularly with young families. At low tide, rock pools and hidden coves emerge for little adventurers to explore. Unlike the livelier surfing beaches nearby, Porth has a more relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for those looking to escape the crowds.
A pedestrian bridge leads to Porth Island, where scenic coastal walks reveal panoramic views and traces of ancient settlements. The South West Coast Path also runs through this area, offering stunning hikes in both directions.
With cafés, a pub, and convenient amenities nearby and walking distance to both Newquay centre to the east and Watergate Bay to the west, Porth strikes the perfect balance between natural beauty and accessible comfort; making it a hidden gem in the Newquay area.
